last night was the 8th annual nuit blanche ... we took the kids with us and made it an evening stroll around the city ... we only got to see a fraction of the art installations before we had to head home for bedtime but we had a great time ... one of the first installations we saw was a fun display of 5,000 pairs of socks ... i jokingly said to my husband that it was probably sponsored by a sock manufacturer ... as we walked towards the signage, low and behold it was sponsored by none other than mcgregor ... ha! below is the eerily beautiful installation set up in the holy trinity church titled "familia" by bruno billio ... the church floors were covered in a mirror-like tiles which reflected the gorgeous painted ceilings ... a string f wooden chairs hang from the ceiling ... and the ambience and dim lighting in the church gave this piece that extra dimension ai weiwei, a chinese artist and activist who currently has an exhibition in the art gallery of toronto was prominently displayed at toronto city hall ... this work titled "forever bicycles" symbolizes the fast changing social environment in the world ... this installation was made up of 3,144 bicycles by the brand jong jiu which literally means "forever" in chinese ... my son had a great time exploring the inside of the sculpture and spinning the wheels ...
